Kevlar - Wikipedia

Kevlar is a heat-resistant and strong synthetic fiber, related to other aramids such as Nomex and Technora. Developed by Stephanie Kwolek at DuPont in 1965, [1] [2] [3] this high-strength material was first commercially used in the early 1970s as a replacement for steel in racing tires.

How does Kevlar work? Why is Kevlar so strong?

Like Nomex, Kevlar is a distant relative of nylon, the first commercially successful "superpolyamide", developed by DuPont in the 1930s. Kevlar was introduced in 1971, having been discovered in the early 1960s by chemist Stephanie Kwolek, who earned US Patent 3,287,323 for her invention, with Paul Morgan, in 1966.
